16v Idle speed
« on: 10 March 2006, 11:26 »
My idle is currently far too high. However my idle screw is fully wound in and is not leaking. Is there any other way of setting the idle speed?

Hmm i have trouble with mine too and it always seems either too high or too low. If i wind the screw in too far it stalls though so could yours be jamming or is it running too rich?

After starting cold mine also revs up and down for about 20secs before settling down- do you reckon its a WUR problem? Ive seen a diagram of how they work (made no sense ) and not sure whether to get it modded.
If only my Volkswagen was as reliable as everyone else's...

if the idle screw is wound right it then there is an air leak somewhere

with it sitting on idle, spray wd40 down in round the injectors. if the engine note changes then your seals need replaced.

Turns out it was the idle switch. i.e the electrical switch on the throttle. My switch is faulty so the ecu never knows when the cars supposed to be idling.
