Anyone want to buy a RHF window motor? - NEW
« on: 21 November 2003, 17:53 »
So on the advice of the guy in the parts place I bought a new motor for my window yesterday. Bit dubious that that was the problem but if it worked I would have been happy. So coughed up the money and lo and behold it's not what I needed. So, I went back today and they don't take returns for electrical parts.

Nice wee scam going there.

It's brand new still in the box, front drivers side (are the 2 door ones the same?) It's the type with the multiplug on it - about the size of a scart cable.

Cost me ?145 +VAT. Anyone want to make me an offer and I can send it to you.

I was thinking more like ?100. Postage will cost me about ?10 I think.

Still a bargain at that price.

I should take it back mate, I think you ought to ask the citizens advice what the law says about it all.

I thought about that. I looked into it when I got home. The Sale of Goods Act says that if you bought something in error they don't have to give you your money back. A lot of places do just because it is good for business to be friendly. If they had given you the wrong advice then you would be entitled to a refund.

I described the noise my window was making and the guy behind the counter said 'yes, that could be the motor'. I don't think that counts as him giving me advice so they don't have to give me a refund.

I did pay for it with a credit card so maybe I'll talk to them - they have a bit of clout and sometimes get involved. Never done that before. It's just because it was so expensive. Wish I'd found it out buying a switch or something.

Yup know what ya mean, electrics are always a tricky one, often its a process of elimination which unfortunately seems to cost us a bleedin fortune.
