Hell everyone, new member here.
Ive got a MK2 GTi 8V, been off the road for about a month though, no tax or MOT, but Im planning on sorting it all out next week.
Now I know I need a starter motor, mine is completely gone, but when I was driving it day in day out I always had this problem of a racing engine.
I would start it up in the mornings and straight away the revs would race from 3500-4000 then all the way back to almost 0, before the engine would pick up that it was going to cut off and race the revs back up again. It was a real annoyance, and really noisy, and it even did it when I stopped at traffic lights, I would have to sit with my foot slightly on the accelerator in order to keep the revs at 1000.
What I tried once was just letting it sort itself out, which took about 3-5 mins for it to eventually stop racing, (while standing still) but then when I got in to drive it again, no sooner had I pulled away and slowed down it started its usuall tricks!
Any suggestions? Ive heard a few but just thought Il'd ask around and see if you lot could come up with anything different.
