Problem with revs??

Hi, Ive got a mark 3 golf gti 16v and when I rev the engine it takes ages for the revs to settle back down to idle. Its also the same when driving, when I go to change gear and take my foot off the gas its like the revs dont drop quick enough. I think something just needs cleaning somewhere. Any ideas anyone?

It may be a sticky butterfly inside the throttle body. Try cleaning it inside and out.
