I have recently returned from working in Torino for 3 weeks. My golf has been stood outside un-started for this period. Upon trying to start it I discovered that there was no spark. It has been looked at in the local garage where they have changed the coil, distributor, spark plugs and so on and still it won't fire up. When trying to access the ECU to diagnose the problem it is locked and cannot be accessed. We are now at a point of scratching heads. Any ideas??

hello mate maybe a tad late to be replying to this but i have the same car and the same problem! it started of when i drove home turned the engine of and then when attempting to start again it wouldnt it was trying to turn over but you would think it had no petrol as it wouldnt fire! anyway called the aa out took him a while but he narrowed it down to an electrical fault! maybe the ECU (as u said). he couldnt fix it but recomended that i have a speialised auto electrition to check it out. anyway the next day i tried playing around with the fuses! i checked the fuel pump fuse it was fine, not sure why i did what i did next but it worked and well.... is still going! ha! get a good piece of cable and tie it around the fuel pump fuse and then plug back in. the other end connect to the rear window heater fuse (the only other 14amp fuse) and plug back in sounds dodgey i know and it probably is but it started and is still driving ok. not sure what effects this could have but as i say it works, providing u have the same fault? another quick tip as well join the AA online and take out there extra repair cover they will pay up to £500 for any repairs needed at your chosen garage! up to 5 times! make sure though u leave it for 2 weeks before calling them! as i didnt realise that and called them out the first day woops! let me know if you attempt to try it?

Boooommmmm srings to mind.... the fuse is designed to blow before things like the fuel pump get to much fire causing power etc!!

ha ha! correct! ok well maybe you can help! being what i have said, and the fact im a nutter driving around knowing full well its dodgey! any help? iv bought my self a second hand ECU as suggested could be the problem! allthough didnt really think it through now have a ECU sitting on my table and not to sure what the hell to do with it! i.e wheres the original found?!
also have you fixed your car yet?
