electric window problem - not regulator
« on: 20 November 2003, 18:15 »
A few weeks ago my drivers (RHF) window had stopped working. Someone told me it was the regulator so I ordered one. It came in today and I spent an hour fitting it.

Didn't do anything. I didn't think so because when you press the switch you can hear the motor sort of trying to turn but only whining for a second or so. I thought it was worth a shot though.

So I went back and got a motor - I checked before I took everything out again and it does the same - whines for a second or so.

I then thought I'd try a switch so I called and found one was in stock - I made it over there just in time and the guy inside looked at me and locked the door.

So now I have no window power and it's open 6 inches.

Any ideas? Is it likely to be the switch?

Thanks. Getting desperate now.

UPDATE. I just went out to tidy my tools away and the passenger side now works from the drivers side switch (there are 2 switches on the drivers side as I'm sure you know). It hasn't done that since the start of the problems. Hope that means something to someone. Sounds more like the switch to me now.

Yeah, I did that - new motor just the same. I've actually just dismantled the motor. If you press the switch the little switch inside clicks too. Just doesn't seem to be turning the actual winding gearing.

Sorry, I don't have a sunroof - A/C.

Thanks.

???Mine did this the other day so try this- open the door and check the wiring from the car to your door inside the rubber gaiter. Over the years of being opened and closed the wiring breaks mine was actually frayed down to a few strands!!! so some tiny amount of current was getting through hence the whirring of the motor but not enough to power the window!Everything is down to cost these days and car companies dont give loads of slack with their wiring so it was very taught and there's no give as you open the doors! try moving the wire whilst operating the window if theres no obvious breaks in the insulation.Good luck
