i wouldn't use fibre glass to do this weld a plate in first the filler on that.
fibreglass would probably crack

ok cheers i will have to pop down the old man's neck of the woods to do that LOL would it be a good idea to drill loads of holes in the plate to so the gunky stuff can go in there a anker itself in place?

.....i got one other question can i leave the primer i will get it sprayed with on for the time being and drive around like that.....it wont affect it will it i just want to get the work done then think about a total re-spray.....pink or something?

i wouldn't leave it just primer to be honest, if they are gonna do a total respray they will have to prep all the surrounding paint anyways.

i'm selling my old smoothed tailgate on ebay at the moment!!

you have to weld a plate over the recess or it'll crack/warp and look sh!t in no time at all. mine looks as good as it did when it was first doen a few years ago.

not seeing as yours is a mk3 you won't. What dear old joe didn't mention is that his is a mk2 tailgate.
