MK1 Golf Gti onto Carbs

Hi,
I have got a MK1 Golf GTI 1.8 and was wondering if anyone knows what I need to do to put it onto Twin 40 carbs?
I have got the carbs.  I know I'll have to buy an Manifold for the carbs but what else do I need?

I was going to do this for my 1.6 driver about a year ago so looked into it.

Yes you need to get the inlet manifold, demon tweeks do them but they aint cheap and then air filters for them to, which again arent cheap. When I called Demon Tweeks about the inlet manifold i asked about air filters too, they do individual ones or one big filter that covers both carbs (they used to anyway), providing that you have got the linkage to link both carbs together, you may need some pipe to use as fuel lines in case they dont reach, but apart from that i think thats it!

Oh and they need setting up properly by someone who knows what they are doing with webers!

Cheers mate,  I have pipe and have the linkage for the webbers,  If I can get a Manifold then I'm going to have a go this weekend.  Do I have to do anything with the fuel pump?  
Also do I need to block up the holes where the standard injectors go into?

Some people say that u can get more power out of webers (going from multi point injection to webers) i would of thought its a case of tit for tat. i am not so sure really depends which ones i suppose, i.e 40's or 45's. but its all dependant on how they are set up i suppose. But there is on thing that webers do is sound awesome! i went to a rally on saturday (North West stages) with quite a few Mark 2 escorts on Webers, barking away!

with regards to the injectors then you can get away with leaving them in, but eventually best to blank them over.

for the fuel pump I would of thought that you would be able to get away with keeping it the same. It does the same job in principle as a mechanical one doesnt it but just under a higher pressure. You might need some stronger fuel lines, or ones that can cope with more pressure than just for carbs. I will text my mate and let you know!

thinking about it now, you would have to do something with the return pipe to the fuel pump. On carb models the fuel pump is at the front of the block where as the fuel pump on a mark 1 is underneath at the back of the car, infront of the rear off side wheel (i think). tricky one.

Thanks for this Neaty,  I dont know where to start at the mo.  Think if I can find out about the fuel pump I should be ok!  We'll see though.  Will let you know.

the fuel pump is a low pressure high volume pump , think mines by facet , i run dellorto twin 40s and apparently these are easier to set than the webers , i get my carbs set up once a month as carbs do to go off balance quite easily , the sound is awesome  , prob will have to get fuel pump from demon tweeks
