Hi
« on: 25 February 2006, 22:04 »
Just wanted to introduce myself.

I've just bought my first VW and it's a Mk4 GTi 1.8T.  It's a '99 T reg and done about 78k.
It's Silverstone grey, which I think is a great colour on the Mk4 (although silver and black are favourites too!).

Before looking around I'd not even driven one before, but the look of the car with the performance potential drew me to it.  I love tuning and have always had turbo'd cars, so I'm looking forward to seeing how my new project develops.

The car is standard at the moment and I'm just trying to find out as much as I can about tuning this particular engine (it's the throttle cable version).  Through reading around this site it seems that the Jabbasport remap is the way forward to start with, which is what I'm planning shortly.

What I would like to know is whether anyone's got any links or advice on how to take things further.  What's the limit of the standard internals?  I'm aiming for 250bhp to start with , but would like to work towards 300bhp over time.  Are cam swaps worthwhile on these cars as I can't seem to find about them?

Any help much appreciated.  I'm washing the car tomorrow so will take some pics and post them up on here.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

From what I can remember 300bhp is possible with the 1.8T but you'd need to change a few bits and bobs and need a bigger turbo, KKK04 or something.  :undecided: If you put a thread in the mk4 section some of those boys (or girls) may be able to shed some light. 300 through a front wheel drive car is a lot of ponies though.
......now officially dubless.

 LOL  I know... but this is going to be a long term project for me, doing things bit by bit.  I just need know it's possible to get silly power out of something or I find I get bored with it.  Always need something to work to!
If nothing else, it'll be fun trying!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and gals!
