Help with mk3 wheels - calling wheel experts
« on: 23 February 2006, 15:06 »
I have a mk3 GTI. When i got it it had 17'x7.5' Audi RS4 rims on it. I have since lowered it on fully adjustable FK's and had the RS4's polished. Very nice too! However i have never been a fan of big wheels on these cars and have never been able to get it as low as i want with out rubbing issues (even after arch work). Time has finally come for me to get some new rims. I want the car low as but also abit more practical. I have always wanted some nice deep dish wheels and have pretty much made my mind up on some RH cup's after i found out borbet T's are out of production in most sizes. Thing is i am not sure of sizes! I was thinking 15x8 or 16x7.5 but dunno what works best with the mk3. I don't want to use any spacers either so i need to get the off sets right. Also want a nice deep dish.

Basically i was kinda hoping someone had already been through this on a mk3 and had some advice. Cheers.

Ideally you want the offset to be around the 36 mark. Keeping it as original. However if you want a deeper dish then that will change and become smaller. The 8" wide ones i am presuming you are going to put on the rear, depending on how low you are going to go these might have bit of an issue with body movement when you go over bumps etc, as they will come up and more than likely hit the arch sill, this is easily cured by getting the lip rolled into the arch giving you a few more cm's of clearance. The fronts will probably do the same when on full lock and going round corners. But you will not know till they are put on.

i'd say go for 16's. i think 15's look too small on a mk3.....

Cheers for the advice guys. I think its more a case of getting the offsets right.

Slick - Ur wheels have a decent size dish with out being stupid wide. This is what i want to achieve.
