Potential MK3 owner needs advice..
« on: 19 November 2003, 19:49 »
Hi Golf GTI forum  ;D

I'm looking at possibly getting a MK3 GTI.
I'd like to know info on owning the car.

Does it handle well?
R they reliable + cheap to own?
What kind of MPG do you get from the 8V & the 16V?

Anything I should look for or avoid when buying

I'm selling my Fiat Punto GT Turbo, it's quick and I'm worried a standard 8v or even 16v will feel a bit slower but I'm starting to like the idea of owning a Golf.

R they Fun!?
Thanks

Get a mark 2 loads more fun! and parts are cheaperish, if you get the 3 get a vr6!!! or a 16v, treat em all well and they are all good tho

my mk3 16v does about 25mpg round town, but about 38-39 on a run, is fast, wot u expect from a 150bhp car :)i only puched mine to 110mph, but loads more in it.

As for reliability not let me down so far in 2 months that i owned her.

Heard it handle better on uprated suspension, but mine feel ok to  me, but thats prob cos i been driving a 1.2 punto for last year lol

And  I would personally buy an unmodified model!

Thanks for the info

I saw a fantastic blue MK2 16v the other day. But I'm worried it will be a little bit too old. I use my car for work milage you see.

Overseer - Your Mk3 looks just like I want!  ;D Was leather interior an optional extra?

I have no idea, I guess it must have been a dealer option, I didn't get much additional paperwork with the car other than the full vw sh. only had 1 prev owner too.

From what people here have said I know its pretty rare and I watched autotrader for a couple months before this car came up and cant recall seeing any other leather ones, let alone many 3 doors..  they're heated too btw ;)

I really need to get off my butt and get a nice set of shots, I found it quite hard to find 16v pics when researchin the car.
