Newbee with 99 2.0 GTi problem

Engine code APK. The car will cut out once it is hot and not start. I took it to VW who read the ecu and the only faults found where 2 oxygen sensors. Had both replaced and on the way home it did it again. I have to leave it until cold before it starts again. Took it back to VW, read ECU but no faults shown. They told me air flow meters where a problem on these so put my hand in pocket and had a new one fitted. Drove 2 miles and it cut out again. When it does cut out it shows no fault on the ECU! Also when it does this there is no spark, I have fuel though. I'm being driven mad by this. The dealer now tells me there is nothing more they can do. Having spent numerous days with them I'm at a loss. Seems I jst keep throwing money at it but the problem still exists. Can nayone help or offer any advice?

Does the 99 model use coil packs?

no havent got any coil packs in the 2.0.. very odd this one, it prob just a silly electrical prob.. very odd how vag-com doesnt pick up any faults, iam wondering if its the temperature sender, apparently there is more than one temp sender unit, so ive been told, one sends info to your dash and the other to your ECU, wondering if the one to the ECU is faulty and sending wrong readings, maybe fooling your ECU into thinking the engine has overheated and cut the engine for safety?? just a thought tho

If there are no coil packs, then it will more than likely be your dizzy or rotor arm

^^^ true, just think its odd that it does it when it is hot

If its a faulty rotor arm, then this will only cause probs when its hot.  Plus its worth a shot as its only cheap

The point on the rotor arm above reminded me of a similar fault with a previous car - the centre contact in the distributor cap that connects with the rotor arm had broken, it still worked sometimes but would give intermittent problems - I took off the cap and the contact fell apart. Certainly worth checking

Take it back to the garage & demand them to fix it ASAP!!!

You've told them what the ponblem was, & they've mis-diagnosed it twice, not to mention charging you twice for the prvilege! Need to get tough with them, as they'll just keep taking the p*ss!

Try the temp sender.   A cheap and quick fix.  I had a similar problem and this sorted it.
