HORSEPOWER QUESTION
« on: 19 November 2003, 12:04 »
What BHP is a 1990 8v as standard?  Parkers reckon they came with 112bhp.  Also what BHP increase could you expect from the following mods..?  My car has a front pipe back Scorpion SS exhaust (standard manifold), and a replacement K&N panel filter.    My girlfriends car (also a 1990 8v) has a full SS exhaust (manifold included) twin 3inch DTM but i'm yet to determine what brand, also a 57i induction kit.  How much power do you think we may have gained.  Her car is deffinately noticebly FASTER! (yes i will do something about this in the future!!)

The BHP for the 8v is 112. With an induction kit and complete sports exhaust, the general rule for increase is about 10%.

I have no idea what mine's putting out. don't the standard ones top out at 115mph on paper? I've had mine hit the limiter reading 130mph and still wanting more  ???

afaik it's got an enlarged intake/throttle body and a cam. The rest 'looks' standard. It rev's off the clock for a 8v though. ;D

(I think it wants to be a 16ver ;))

I think the bigger throttle body comes off an Audi 80, don't forget to change the warm up regulator as well. To get the benefit of the bigger throttle body , put a fast road cam in too.

I hunted down a throttle body on an audi for a few weeks and finally got one and all the gaskets to add it on only to find out I already had one on there  ::) no wonder it was the fastest 8v anyone had driven. The cam makes a lot of difference. gives it more beans above 4500rpm which is needed in the 8v.

So I've got said throttle body lay around doing nothing. I'd spent a few hours cleaning that thing! grrr. U want it davidhawkins_78??
