Newbie here....
« on: 19 February 2006, 16:19 »
Hi all,

My name is Kat, I am from South Wales and I've just bought a G reg GTI 1.8 16v....   I never thought I'd have a go at restoring a car, but here I am!!

I haven't got the faintest idea of where to start, but I'm sure that after a good trawl around this forum I should get some ideas.

I've started off by re-vamping the leather interior with a lot of black leather stain and dubbing... they look wonderful now! I'm going to move onto the alloys.... they are the standard ones, and are a little tarnished.

What is the best way to get them bright and shiny again?
Any help greatfully appreciated!

All the best,
Kat

lol no thats just me saying hello.

Depending on the state of the wheels then use a cleaner called wonder wheels, but read the instructions as it is very very strong. If you have laquer peeling on the wheels or they have been kurbed then a less harsh cleaner will be needed. Something with a low acid content.

Hey Ottlie, thanks for the welcome!

LOL!! Arrow, nice to meet ya

Here's a pic of the car at present, the alloys are not too bad, it's just around the edges where they've been scuffed and general wear and tear:

I have rust on the bodywork in places too.......   ah, the joys of restoration!!
