www.letstorquebhp.comHope you don't mind me coming on here (use to own a golf gti years ago).....
Its my site, and cheers for the comments. No it doesn't use gear ratios, torque, or areodynamics. It was never surpose to, and there are already far more complicated programs (eg cardata) using every single variable possible, so best to use that if you want an exact figure, but you may find its very difficult and time consuming to get all the data required.
I set out to design formulas/calculator to only use only easy available data, i.e 1) bhp, 2) kg and 3) drivetype. Please read the explained section
http://www.letstorquebhp.com/explained.asp for more info. Its a fun site about theory figures, and its for easy and very quick comparision between performance cars. Its what I have planned with the data (eg top trump type game) that will be great fun.
You'll be surprised how close the listed data is to real road tests, giving the lack of data it requires to list all the performance figures. None of the listed performance data is actually taken from tests.
Its never going to be exact, but providing you use the correct bhp and kg (and you'l be surprised how many people get this wrong) its only barely a few tengths out on the 1/4mile compared to road tests, and the complicated programs. The calc assums various average variables, like torque the same as bhp, so many gear changes, average areodynamics for the bhp, average transmission loss for the drivetype, using an average weight of a driver (just add more/less to the car's wieght if your different), legal slicks when bhp/ton gets stupidly high etc etc.
Re diesels, I admit the performance can be slightly out on some of the TDi's, but I have an option (that will be released soon) to allow for cars with much higher torque than bhp, this will reduce the times slightly. The same for the amount of gear changes/or even a dog box on serious drag road legal cars.
I appreciate any feedback, and if you want any cars VW (or cars) to the lists (using the formulas) then please e-mail me as per site.
Cheers and add it to your favourites, it will only get better.
