fuelling probs on 2.0 GTi?!
« on: 17 February 2006, 13:23 »
hi all, could anyone help with this problem??

my mate has a mk4 2.o Gti (8v) and it has recently lost all power and the Mpg is around 10-15 ?!!?!
he changed the air mass, but it is still happenin,
also he noticed that there was "condensation" in the oil cap?? this turns out to be petrol!!

its runnin v.v. rich (hence the Mpg) and sooty smoke (not sue or sweep ) is commin out the exhaust??

Can anyone shed some light on this problem please?!?! :undecided:

p.s he took it to vw (thinkin it was originally the head... not...)and they just changed the oil and sent him on his way !

please can anyone help, cos when i race him i win all the time.....and i got a diesel!

thanks all

is it in limp home mode where the ecu cut the power etc???

mayo in the oil is normally due to head gasket gone or loads of short journeys

hey Tim20,
loads of short journeys is about right, but, vw dealership said it wasnt the head (everything points to it tho')
"limp home" mode??  how is that reset??

and there is definatly petrol in the oil, its formin a "condensation" on the oil cap and inside the dipstick tube!! it smells really strong!

when drivin, its the same feel when the airmass goes.... some power then a stutter...then nowt...then power etc etc.

vw just charged him £80 to basically change his oil and get a new oil cap.

and the problem is still there....scratch  scratch ....

what d'you rekon??? :undecided:

Sounds like a piston ring has gone allowing petrol down the side of a piston and into the oil get it compression checked asap and get a dub specialist to look at it. ;)

LAMBDA SENSOR DEFO!!!!Ignore the filler cap mines the same mate.It will be the lambda sensor in front of the cat converter. You should expect to pay about £70 + VAT.Is the engine management light on?
