I saw lots of surface rust on a demo car at the local dealer, and that was ONE week after the dealer got the car. Paint the hubs if it bothers you.

Is there a way of avoiding the hubs from rusting?

I collect my GTI soon & intend on cleaning my alloys every week with soapy water to get rid of brake dust & salt from the road. Would this avoid the hubs from rusting.

I have opted for the 18" Monza II - Can you use Wonder Wheels? I am not sure as the wheel has a chrome finish.

Thanks, EdMass.

Only way to prevent the rustin gis to remove the wheels and paint the hubs.

I wouldn't use Wonder Wheels unless you have soem really stubborn muck on there. If you have some split laquer, it can get underneath it and cause it to peel more.

Thanks for your advise Organisys.

I called my dealership this afternoon & they know nothing about rusty hubs! It makes you wonder if they play dumb & hope the problem disappears or they think customers are mushrooms - Kept in the dark & fed bullsh!t!!

I cannot believe I am the only customer to mention this to my dealer.

It's a shame VW don't take the same approach BMW offer its customers - My wife has a 12mth old Mini Cooper S Convertible & the roof has marks due to the mechanism problems. BMW have agreed to replace the entire roof under warranty without any fuss. Although you pay a lot for the car, the service is superb & would make you want too buy another BMW.

I think it's called customer service & it provides customer satisfaction.

Customer service does vary from one dealrer to another, even under the same brand. My local VW dealer is shockingly bad, and despite their reputation some of my collegues have had problems with the local BMW dealer too.

I just visited my dealer to hear what they had to say about this. I have had my GTI for 2 months, and already alot of rust is showing. The dealer said that this was to be expected, and was normal. Actually insinuated that I was being a bit anal about this. Well well.....

I guess painting them with some heat resistant coating will do the job.

Hi all, I have a 4 month old GTI and all 4 hubs have lost almost half of their paint and look rusty :embarassed:. Just wondering if anyone has painted theirs and if so what did you use and are you pleased with the results?

Cheers
