BLOODY CARS BROKEN!!!!!!!
« on: 14 February 2006, 12:06 »
Was drivin around the coast today and it started to judder on me. I didnt think it could be engine as it sounded fine and wasnt makin any judderin kinda noises - you can tell how technical i am

Well my dad is over for a few days and luckily he was in the car with me and said it was likely to be breaks. So I dropped it off on the way home at my local garage, by which time my pedal wouldnt depress atall and if i let it roll in neutral it pulled right up. Im almost certain the rear drivers side break has siezed. Just prayin its not goin to be overly expensive. I had a feelin I was goin to need new front disks soon anyway but didnt need that too.

So, could this be an expensive thing to sort? I only had the rear breaks done about 5 months ago so i dont think they should need changin all together. Also, what are my options with possibly uprating the front disks? Its only a 1.4 but the tiny disks really give that away. If i change the disks will i need different calipers too? and would the rear drums need uprating aswell?

Sorry for the long story.

If you are going to uprate the brakes then you will need to make sure you have everything relevant for the job, I.E. caliper, carrier, caliper bolts, master cylinder, pads and disc. Tbh for your car that all seems like bit of a ball ache.

I would just get the caliper replaced, flush the brake lines, put new fluid in, and get some new front discs and pads put on. There isn't really a call for larger discs on your motor mate, if you want to make the braking more confident on it, then get some braided lines fitted, they will clear up the sponginess and the brake fade as they get hot.

Braided hoses are always an important improvement.
They let all the pressure of braking get to the calipers as they dont expand like rubber hoses do...

I think thats what i expected to hear really. I just wanted to fill the space behind the wheels a little more but for all that messin around il pass. The garage will hopefully be gettin back to me later so i know what its likely to cost and what needs doin so il let u all know and see if im not getin ripped for it.

how much would braided hozes set me back? Might look into it if it helps that much

or
egay

Usually start from around £60 although i got a complete 6 line kit for £42

I think you will only need a 4 line kit aswell as its the fronts that do all the braking on your car.

well iv just spoken to a mate of mine whos in the know and he reconed it may be the break sender (think thats what its called, its been mentioned to me before when the rear breaks died) Would this sound possible? am i right in thinkin thats what splits the breakin between the front and the rear wheels? Coz if thats the case it would make sense. My front breaks have worn down quite a lot and have been gettin very hot recently, i suppose if the sender had gone and the rears are doin none of the breakin the fronts have a lot more work to do and this would be the case.

I thought that the drums didn't do any braking apart from when the handbrake was applied. Then again i could be wrong, the fronts will take most punishment, as when braking the weight all shifts onto them.
