Welcome to the site.

I'm sure some of us will have questions to ask you as time goes by and it would certainly be interesting to have a maindealer's point of view on certain subjects. I think in the circumstances we should also respect your anonymity.
......now officially dubless.

Nothing to do with any questions about golfs but i am wanting to try and get in to car salesmyself i spend my entire life talking about cars so why not get paid for it!

from your experience is it a necesity to have sales experience, i have worked in a sales environment for 2 and a half years in a non sales capacity so was thinking maybe that would help!

cheers

Neaty

Neaty, Car sales is not rocket science.

If you've been in sales in some form you should have a head start. Understanding cars is only really a small part of it. Understanding people is much more important.

Write to your local main dealers. The big guys offer the best training. Merc, BMW and of course VW. Volkswagen have an incredibly good training program (and we get to play with GTis at Donington Park, R32 at Brands and Touaregs off road at Brands Hatch).  They all run trainee sales programs.  You are better off approaching these guys than the Renaults and Peugeots of this world.

Martinb - Yes it's me. Keep schtum or the cats'll get it

Hi and welcome.
My main dealer offered me a discount on the hourly rate, for my mk1, as it was an older car. Do you know if this is a common thing, or is it worth other members trying this out? Also, what kind of discount can we realistically expect to negiotiate when we buy a second hand car from a main dealer? and is there a preference to cash/credit/no part ex/part ex etc?
Hope these questions help out a few members, if you can answer them.
