Stop my brother in law making a big mistake!
« on: 09 February 2006, 20:40 »
Hi everyone.

My brother in law is the proud owner of a Mk1 campaign GTI.

It's been very well looked after and is what I would consider to be of very good condition. It has a couple of small rust bubbles starting to show on one of the doors and the boot lid, but they're not very serious looking.

It is totally standard with original Pirelli wheels.

I'm afraid thats where my limited knowledge of what it is runs out.

What I need to know is that he's looking at selling it to get a Corrado VR6. And as such has been to view one. The guy selling has offered him £500 for his GTI?!?!?!?!!

Is he taking the hit and miss? I though this rare little car would have been worth more than that?

Any advise would be greatfully recieved as I'd hate to see him get ripped off?!

Thanks Ade

Hard to say without pictures and a load more details. My gut feeling on what you have said is that the car is worth a lot more but maybe he knows better if he is considering 500 quid  :undecided:

Well I know it's been religously maintained! and it's always looked immaculate to me. He's a perfectionist and insists it needs work but I could only ever see very minor imperfections.

I'll try and get some pics and more details to help you more! But thanks for confirming my gut feeling.

Even without seeing the pics it sounds like it's worth a lot more. I wouldn't sell a campaign for £500 and I reckon whoever is trying to buy it knows what it is and will sell it on for a hell of a lot more. So yes, in my opinion, he is taking the hit and miss.

P.S. If it sounds as good as you say but with just a bit of rust, I'll buy it off him for £500.

Lol to be honest i was thinking that myself! If he's happy with £500 for it then I'll take it off him and sell it on!

I just didn't want to see him get ripped of by someone who is either completely unaware of what it is and is offering pants money cos it's a part ex or is totally clued up and wants to rip him off!!

Either way it's not great!

I'll try and pop around and get some pics this weekend.

Put some pics up and let us know the full spec and descrition and then we can tell you what we think it's worth.  On no account let it go for £500 though. If someone says it's just an old Golf and not worth much then they really dont know what it is or they are pulling a fast one.

Seriously, if he wants to sell it for around the £500 mark then let me know.
