Value of my car
« on: 08 February 2006, 21:25 »
Im thinking of selling my car pretty soon but wanted to know what you lot thought as to what price i should be asking for it.
Its a mk3 GL 1.8(90bhp) 1996 model in dragon green 5 doors, body work in overall good to very good condition for year and its done 85,000 miles. had all new brakes, bearings, timing, battery, starter, service stuff in the last year.
If you look at my gallery its had a few mods; lowered suspension, 17" wheels (ok cond), crystal lights all round, vr6 chin and rear spoiler, twin backbox, pioneer head unit and fusion sub and amp.
Just let me know what you would roughly value it at, cheers.

If you are looking to sell then that sounds like a top price... Mk3s seeem to be worth fairly little unless they are a Driver, GTi, VR6 or a diesel.

For a GL i think it looks pretty nice maybe even better than stock gti's (of course i would say that though). I was looking to see how much other cars were on autotrader i saw quite a few mk4s, mainly high milers but really pushing down the mk3 prices annoying when i paid £2300 for it about a year and a half ago. So i guess its time to start looking for something newer. Not a mk3 because i want somehting a quite a bit newer and not a mk4 cause i cant afford a 1.8T on insurance yet, hmm what to buy?

Agreed. £2000 is a very good offer. I'd take your mates offer, if you haven't already (I know I'm posting in a 2 week old thread ).

Prices of all mk3s have come down recently IMO, with most dealers offering peanuts even for GTi models .

I should know, I recently traded in my mk3 GTi and only got £1100 for it ('96 P reg 5 door with a/c, 116k on the clock but very clean). The trader gave me some predictable sob story about it being hard to shift. Wasn't happy, but the Toyota Celica GT I was PXing it in against is exceptionally low mileage for the year (86k on '93 L plate with good local full service history).

:embarassed: An older car I know and not part of the VAG stable, but i fancied a change and I couldn't find any decent Corrado's for sale locally at the time.

Agreed again . The mk4 GTi 1.8 20v non turbo's are only group 10 insurance, and being that they were only available on the earlier cars (R, S, T reg etc.), they should be cheaper to get hold of. I've seen seen these in the autotrader and classified's going for 3 to 4k.
