Golf GTI 1.8T Gear lever vibration in 5th
« on: 07 February 2006, 19:40 »
Please help!

I have a gear lever vibration when in 5th and off the accelerator.  Along with the vibration is a fairly loud rumbling noise.  The car has been into VW, but they cannot find the fault.  They have stating it is not from the gear box and have no listing of this type of problem on the VW database.

Has anybody heard of this problem before?

I have just bought a 1.8T that seems too have a slight vibration through the gear lever when in 5th when I lift off the accelerator and it becomes a bit more noticable when I brake as well.  Its not too bad really and doesn't happen in any of the other gears.  There is no noise to go with it though.

my first thought would be the flywheel, but then it wouldnt be exclusive to 5th gear.

did vw strip the gearbox to see if 5th drive was damaged ? can't see how they can state the gearbox is fine without doing that :undecided:

They had the car for a couple of hours to look into the problem, but were unwilling to strip the gearbox as they believed it was not from that area.  They gave me the option to start a full investigation, but they did not feel confident in finding the problem!!!!  So I was a little reluctant to continue to spend hundreds of pounds without resolution.

The vibration and noise is really starting to get to me!
