As they said above whats the going rate up your end. £250 to me sounds very exspensive. VW specialist by mine charge £55 per hour and sachs clutch cost £60-70 from gsf. Book time to change clutch on 8v gti is 2hrs. Done my own in 1hr 20mins.

Nice one
Still say 250 is as cheap as you'll get a clutch done at a garage, well in surrey
Anyway people that complain about paying 200 quid on their car really need to do it themselves!

ok - I was quoted 450 from VW garage for a clutch change on my mk1 golf. I would expect from around 300-500 depending on garages.

I ended up doing it myself, bought Sach clutch - 80 pounds and took the engine and gearbox out of the car whole (easier to do) and took gearbox off and replaced clutch - I put on another gearbox - as I'm rebuilding mine at mo - 1st/2nd Synco gone. Put engine and gearbox back in and did this all in 4 hours (did clean up other parts of the engine as well) - so a garage with all the equipment will not take more than 4 hours to do this job... if they do - they must be a right bunch of cowboys!!!

hi,just to let you know,,a mate of mine just had his clutch changed mk2 8v,took them four hours but only cost him £130 .from a cluch centre in wolverhampton.not sure how they will make any money from doing it but thats what he paid.so over£200 is a little on the high side i think. good luck
