How hot washer jets??
« on: 03 February 2006, 08:09 »
Hey

Came in to work today - 30 min drive, mfa helpfully telling me it's -2 outside and so I've got me wooly hat on... Put me rear squidgy on to wash the window, worked fine... Fronts had frozen up though. Funny that, since I thought they were sposed to be heated and the back one not??

So, how hot should they get, and does anyone know how to test them? Also, are they like the heated mirrors, and come on when the ignition is on (all the time) or only when say, the demister button is on?

Ta...

Probably something to do with the wind chill factor mate! No amount of heating will deal with that if you drive fast!

Oh yeah, just not a great amount of concentrate in there... I figured that if they were heated jets they wouldn't freeze up, so long as the pipes didn't freeze and the whole bottle didn't freeze I'd be ok....  :undecided:

Its the nozzles that freeze, right at the outlet ends. And sometimes even the antifreeze type wash additive can cope with wind chill.

Believe me it can be double the outside temp over that section of the bonnet.

I have had virtually neat green stuff in the bottle and its still frozen after a run on the motorway!
