The Beast in for MOT
« on: 01 February 2006, 13:04 »
I hate this part of the year, and tbh ive neglected the little car!
Recently split up with my girlfriend and lost my job (quit cuz i was promised a job with mate of a mate, then he said he didnt have enuf work for me!! W@anker!)
Anyhoo, been low in my morale and low in funds and now the car has decided to kick me while im down aswell!

After inspection ive noticed the bottom ball joint boots are split, the rear wheel bearing is rumbling, and since ive lowered it the top mounts have knackered. Also, the front brakes discs are a tad low!!
Car is booked in for MOT today at 3.45pm and i cant be arsed with it! If it fails then its good buy Golf.

Are you sure mate. What else could you buy to replace it that is anywhere near as good? Im sure it only needs a little tlc to get it rolling for another year.

Not sure, ive got me Mk1 Caddy to drive round in for the moment, but its just one thing after another!
Still havent fixed the running problem, and me supercharger conversion is also playing up! (Cant get enuf fuel)!

I will see what happens at MOT, if its got loads of problems then i will have a long hard think about where i can burn it!
Gutted, cuz its booked in for Rolling Road at TSR on Saturday.

The mot points are not that bad mate, nothing a day or two work won't sort.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

Ok, im a happy chappy!!
The car failed though.......... :embarassed:  BUT.......
it only failed on the Top strut mount, both rear wheel bearings, and both bottom ball joints on front.

Sounds a lot but ive got all the bits i need so tommorow its in for re-test.

What are the advantages with Bonrath Top strut mounts, (other than lowering in 15mm)? Shall i replace the bust one with standard or uprated, and whats price difference?

Oh yeah, the MOT bloke (who i know-dads mate) was pulling his hair out cuz the Golf was too low to get on the ramp, in the end we used 4 planks of wood and 4 sheets of metal to make the ramp less steep!

strut top mounts are always going to go when ground scrapng is entered into the equation. some people say buy the 'uprated' g60 versions, the bonraths are an option as are the more race inspired ally camber/caster adjustable jobbies. all in all i'd go standard and look to upgrade in time, the most important thing  has to be getting her back on the road!
