Door window weatherstrips
« on: 01 February 2006, 12:11 »
I've done a quick search and pestered the local VW garage (admittedly it's a commercial vehicles place: car dealer is far away) but without success. My project MK2 GTi 8v 5dr has developed the common problem of the rubberised/plastic coated weatherstrips atop the door rusting. Problem is that the rubber inserts now aren't sitting tight against the windows and, worst of all, the rust is leaving stains on the Alpine white paintwork.

Anybody know if VW still stock the weatherstrips?

If not, does anyone know where might supply them?

I'm guessing it might be a scavenge hunt around a scrapyard?

Any ideas if later model ones can be "persuaded" to fit?

Thanks in advance for any hints or tips

best bet is to plunder your local scrappy, be patient and you'll find what you need eventually.  GSF used to sell new rubberstrips too worth giving them a try.

Thanks RJ. I had a funny feeling it was a scrappy only job. You'll laugh at this: I actually bought the rubber strips from GSF because the description wasn't very clear and I thought I was buying the trim strips instead  oh well, never mind: at least when I find non-rusted trims I'll have nice new rubber to fit in them
