Good question!

And if i may add - would it be worth doing your stem seals/seats at the same time as i assume you'd have to take the head off......

I think its almost time to attempt to sort my oil problems as well but i reckon rings on a car are going to be a bit more tricky than on my 2stroke trials bike!

yep, but i had my engine in pieces when i did it!

i believe you can take them out the bottom after removing the sump? but ootherwise its head off, sump off, etc to release them from the crank so you can pull them out the top.easy enough but lengthy.
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post

you can do it with the block in situ & the head off. just take the sump of and dismantle from the bottom

worthwhile doing the big end bearings at the same time

make sure you mark each rod, casing, piston. infact mark everything piston 1,2,3,4 everything is balanced so if you mess it up refitting u'll have even more probs

u need to hone the bores and u also need a ring condenser for getting the piston back into block

What do you mean by hone the bores?

Also im thinking of getting the bottom end lightened and balanced. Should i just leave the piston ring replacement up to the people who do the lightening/ballancing?
