you can do it with the block in situ & the head off. just take the sump of and dismantle from the bottom
worthwhile doing the big end bearings at the same time
make sure you mark each rod, casing, piston. infact mark everything piston 1,2,3,4 everything is balanced so if you mess it up refitting u'll have even more probs
u need to hone the bores and u also need a ring condenser for getting the piston back into block
