Header tanks
« on: 30 January 2006, 10:41 »
I noticed this weekend that my header tank is leaking from a seam. So time for a new one. I currently have the kidney shaped one with a sensor in the top. Can i change this for one of the round ones? Will i need a different bracket too? Also what happens with the sensor?

I'm fairly sure these are interchangable, but the brackets will need changing? I'm not sure about the sensor at all, but it'd be a good upgrade to get the round type anyways, they're much better. Just make sure you get the genuine black screw cap, not the blue one, which can lead to leaks, etc and is a piece of crap.

you want a blue cap, the black ones are the old type with an inferior vent design.  You can get one from VW if you want but I've had no trouble with blue Febi caps from www.vwspares.co.uk Febi are a VW part manufaturer AFAIK ;)

;)

Oh and the new tank brackets are bolted onto studs on the suspension turret, and the old brackets are welded in place.

I'm not sure if the older cars still have the studs or not, but once you chisel the old bracket off you could mount the new one with some self-tapping screws :)
