Engine Bay clean up on my newly aquired 5dr 16v
« on: 28 January 2006, 16:49 »
There was nothing wrong with engine bay, in fact it had a good deal of originality, unfortunately most of dirt so I thought it should get the "treatment"!

Autoglym Engine and Machine degreaser sprayed liberally throughout a warm but not hot engine bay. Dirt and grime was agitated with brushes of varying sizes before the engine was rinsed with a domestic hose avoiding prolonged contact with electrical areas and dizzy. Engine run again to allow to dry. Once engine was dry, it was sprayed liberally with Autoglym Plastic and rubber protectant, bonnet closed and allow to dry on warm engine. Bonnet opened again and handywork admired! (The under bonnet insulation was attacked with a combination of AG Engine degreaser and fairy liquid mixed up in a spray bottle)

Before:

After ;)

The trick is to use the Vinyl and Rubber protectant afterwards! I used probably 1/4 of a bottle and really sprayed it everywhere. The great thing is the warm engine dries the protectant and leaves a very shiney finish....

Cheers,

Steve

be carefull spraying the engine and machine cleaner on a warm engine as it'll dry it before it does the grim breakdown. :)

Next job paint everything again like Joe :D
