Hi just bought an S reg golf mk4 and id like to ask if anybody has experienced this same issue before

when i put the key in the door and open, the central looking opens all the doors and the windows come shooting down .....all 4 of them

, is this supposed to happed ....id imagine it isnt .....has anybody else had this before

?

I'd have a squint in the mk4 section, I know they have issues with central locking, so its worth a look in there...

get a mark2 you will be lucky if the door opens and the windows go down at all LOL

Billy VW has got the same problem with his Mk4

He couldnt find anything in the Mk 4 section. knightrider told him it was in the ECU.

this should happen, but only if you hold the key in the unlock position for a few seconds longer, instead of just turning to open or using your remote fob

^^^^ True, should only happen if you hold the key in the anti clockwise direction for a good few seconds.

I remember seeing a program about mk4's where peoples car were getting robbed but there was no sign of any attempted break in - people would find their car doors & windows open like you described

there was a fault with the alarm or something, well dodgy if you ask me

its supposed to do that so in the summer when its hot u can get some air in your car before u get in it and fry.

That is a fault on some pre 98 vw models where the lock can be popped out of the handle, giving access to the wiring to release the windows.
