I have the Green Haynes (Early MK2) the red Haynes (Later MK2) and the Robert Bentley which is bigger than both Haynes put together, the Haynes manuals are crap get a Bentley (Haynes are almost completetly useless to me as they dont cover Diesels)

I have both the Max P and the normal Haynes for my Mk2.

Have to say since Haynes ditched the "Workshop" manual in favour of the new "Service/Repair" manual they've not been much use. 

I tend to be cheaky and ask a local mechanic if I feel anything is a miss so that I know exactly what I should be changing
