Megasquirt??
« on: 23 January 2006, 22:27 »
No its not some dodgy bit of spam, but a cool looking mappable ecu.
The thing is, I'm looking to getting an Audi 6a into my gti and think this would be right up my street, especially when later plans would involve a lovely t28 and maybe even NOS.
What I'd like to know is, Has anyone tried using this?
+ As my 8v is digifant, eventually with mk3 or mk4 interior + electrics what would be the best/easiest route, to wire in the motronic?? ecu and loom, or start a fresh with the megasquirt?

It would be controlling ignition timing and be connected to an in car mac for on the fly remaps and on board diagnostics.

I could have this completely wrong, but i always thought that the megasquirt system was made as an alternative for the KJet system in valvers. Thats about the limit to my knowledge about it i am afraid. Will have to do some research.  :nerd:

have a look on msefi.org(or .com) its a ecu that can compete with the motec type ecus, just its for any petrol engine and is open source, so is a bit easier to remap, etc.

??? This Megasquirt looks mental! Also looks like you'll need a degree in electrics to do it! I think the final result will be a fully mappable ecu system that you pulg your laptop into. Sort of like paying for a full day on the rolling road, but whenever you want and for free.

From what I've been told, you'll need to fully construct all the system (although you may be able to purchase some ready built set ups) then I think you will need all the sensors of a Ford (maybe with the Ford coil pack, although it may be possible to use the original coil and dizzy). You'll also need a lam probe. Then you'll need to wire all this in to your injection and fuelling system etc....

Again, I'm as unsure on this as you are, just going on what I've been told. Either way it sure doesn't sound easy or a five minute job!

i heard it was reasonably easy to put together. you're supplied with a full instruction manual, how hard can a bit of soldering be?

also there are a select few people using it, the people in practical performance car magazine swear by it, and a lot of these jag xkr motor in your grans reliant kitten boys are using it too. seems like a cheap answer to an expensive problem.
