How can I improve the handling?
« on: 23 January 2006, 19:58 »
Hi

After getting my turbo fixed on my GT TDI 150 I'm after advice for improving the handling. I love the car, the mid range power is excellent but when it comes to being fast around roundabouts and the like the handling isn't great. I know it's not a sports car but!!!! I had a Saxo VTR (frowned upon by many I know) and the handling was awesome in comparison and was great fun for throwing around...I live in fear of losing control of the Golf as it's no sports car.

Is there anything I can do to improve the handling? Suspension stiffer?

Thanks  :undecided:

I would love to liven up my 1.8t too.

Love lots about the car, but must admit a Ford Ka has more balance and composure (= enjoyment) down a challenging B road.

I know...it's a major downer on what is otherwise a great car. Test drove a clio 182 and had forgotten how much fun little cars were to chuck around, resisted it for the comfort though (must be getting old!)  :undecided:

A Golf that drove like a Focus or 306 would be a great car.

the mk5 is much better, I am seriously tempted/...

Either that, or new susp on my car and a 'toy'

Uprate the anti-roll bar to start with, then if it's still not good enough, look at the shocks/springs. Maybe even buy a strut brace, too.
