HELP, PLEASE - Rear Brakes
« on: 19 January 2006, 14:17 »
I've changed the rear pads on my 306 before, but was just wondering if the caliper pistons are twisted or pushed backed in, on the Mk4 Golf.

Plus any other hints/tips would be more than welcome.

Thanks,

There is a tool for pressing/turnig the pistons back on the mk4 , it's the same tool as used on the mk2s*, mk3s and other VAG group cars/vans
( *but not the early mk2s)
They look like this :

P.S. there maybe some helpful person near to you on this forum that might have one that you could borrow. ( I'd lend you mine but I'm in Brighton )
P.P.S. when winding the piston back spray a small amount of WD 40 or similar onto the rubber seal around the pistons otherwise it can get twisted up and rip.

Cheers, pal. Much appreciated.

I've since spoke to a mate who's gonna sort me the tool, and now I know what to expect.

Cheers.

Have got my pads, now, but there's some kind of weird sticky paper stuck onto the backs of the pads. (Pads are Mintex, BTW).

Anybody, know if I still have to grease the backs or not, and/or leave the paper on?

Please help, i've never seen this before on other car makes.
