Sorting out scratches and scuffs
« on: 19 January 2006, 00:52 »
was wondering how you would go about fixing scratches and scuffs ?

I managed to haggle the price down on the car i bought because it had a few cosmetic scratches and scuffs.

Ones on the left panel not very big but unsightly and a few on the bumper and one on the wing mirror.

Now I dunno how I would go about touching these up.

They odnt majorly bother me but I owuld like to tidy them up myself or if I can get a specialist to do it would be nice.

Who would I ask to do this kind of work are there specialist touch up artists  out there ?

Hopefully wont be too pricey.

Also forgot to add they are not deep scratches\scuffs but they do reveal a white colour from the metalic reflex silver colour which I assume is the primer ?

G3 cutting compound with lots of water and an electric mop.

or just pay a bodyshop to do that for you.

i did a google search and found chipaways.co.uk and they quotes me a rough price of £250 + vat! but he said its hard to say without seeing it. They can do it immediately and do it at your home or work. I nearly choked when he said the cost and told him no thanks very quickly. Then he told me body shops will charge you  more to as they repaint the whole panel.

So I'll give t-cut a shot tommorow. bit cheaper than 250

my bodyshop would want about 100 notes (maybe less) for a pukka mop and polish job.

worth asking about

does sound a little high too me but then again its a hell of a lot cheaper than having the whole panel done.

There customer testimonials sounds great.

I'll ask at the local garage tommorow and if I aint happy with that I've go with chipaway.

 <--- just for you dinx .... hmmm I hope you female or a big smooch like thats gonna start me questioning my sexuality

if its a flat colour ya will be able to polish with farecla g3 compound and then g10 liquid paste. if it hasnt gone past the colour if so it will need paint
but if its metallic this has clear laquer on so bit more work required ya will need a fine wet and dry paper like 2000 grit
rub it out then polish it up
