golf mk 2 help needed!!!
« on: 19 January 2006, 00:29 »
Hi I have a 1987 mk2 Golf GTI 16v that i have recently bought, it was fine for the first week then suddenly I was just driving along and the car started to splutter miss and back fire a little. After driving it home cangarooing a bit it seemed to be fine again for the next day or so then it started to do it again. Thinking it may be dirt in the engine i gave it a service Oil, Filter, cleaned the plugs, air filter, fuel filter, having done this again it seemed fine but the next day i drove it to work about 17 miles it was fine all the way there then it started to miss again but this time worse i couldnt drive it because there is no power there. It seemed to start ok but there just wasnt any revs there. The breakdown guy suggested it could be the coil but have replaced it and still no joy! hopefully someone out there will know what im talking about and be able to help thanks. :undecided:

Id does sound electrical. Try checking your earth straps. Follow the neg lead from your battery to the chassis then to the gearbox. Make sure all are secure and corrosion free. Also check all youir HT leads for splits or breaks.

Check the lift pump in the tank is working, and clean up all the electrical connections to the pump :)

sorry i don't really have any solution but its got to be an electrical thing if you've got a weak spark. check the earths like Mk2GTI2.016v said. what leads did you buy? i'd reccommend oe leads or bosch or beru for bets results.
