misfiring 8v !!
« on: 12 November 2003, 18:02 »
Ideas please, this is begining to bug me.
My 1990 8v has an intermitant miss fire (every now and again - several times on a trip - it misses a beat). It does it at various RPMs and trottle positions (even at tickover). Below is a lis of things replaced

plugs
leads
dizzy cap/ rotor arm (+ 1 dizzy cap spring as 1 missing)
Feul filter
STP injector cleaner used
timing checked

+ oil and filters.

The garage I always use couldn't find any problems when they serviced it today so I am now at a loss as to what could be causeing this.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Craig

I took apart all my intake and other bits that can be easily cleaned and now it runs a fair bit better. also a new air filter does wonders if you haven't replaced it in a while.

I had a similar problem the fuel line (cable) that connects to the injecction system the jublee clip had roted away so it was leaking petrol a bit.

I'm not sure if this is true but does the engine suck in the petrol cos if it does, it would of been sucking in air too due to the jublee clip and hose being roted which cause the miss firing..

I changed the hose and all the problems was sorted..

I did experience the same issues, I took it to the garage they sorted it for a little while... then i started my car one day and it cut out with a pool of petrol on the floor... the hose to the injecting system had come off, i think thsi was causing the problem from the start.

hope that makes sense.  ;)

The hall sender is built into the distributor, if it fails then no spark from the distributor. You can buy a kit just to change the hall sender.

Thanks for the ideas, other sugestions has been the ignition module and the coil. I'll try the coil next and possibly a diffent dizzy (mines got a knackered dizzy cap clip, so at the moment its held on with a zip tie, and the garage couldn't chisel out the remains of the broken clip  :()

Where is the iginion module situated?

You won't have an ignition module, unless you mean the control unit which is by the wiper blade motor. This is unlikely to be at fault, far more likely to be the hall sender in the dizzie.

Mine did this, i took it to a rolling road where they discovered the timing was out, once they put it right the car was fine.
