Worth getting a MK2 GTI for 1K???????
« on: 15 January 2006, 18:41 »
Hi guys,

I sold my GTI 16V a while ago now and i'm going to try and find a better example. My old one was pretty high mileage at 160K and even though it was serviced properley it was strating to show it's age and lose compression etc and smoked, also there was a lot of rust on the tailgate and the bottom of the doors.Basically i bought it off EBAY and travelled about 2 1/2 hours and it wasn't 100% as described but i was up for the challenge but it was well past my capabilites :(

Anyway it cost me £900 and i wan't another but can't spend 3K on a show winner i just wan't a reliable one with little or no rust that i can mod (porsche rims etc) and not be spending out to much..about 1 to 1.5K is my limit and it can't be white or red and much over 100k mileage wise and would like it to be the 90 spec.Mine was a 16V but i could be tempted by a decent 8V...

Am i just dreaming as these cars are getting old now and the good ones cost a fortune?!

i think for your budget you should get a fairly decent example.

you can either spend 1k on the car and £500 on the usual niggles that old cars always have.

OR just go and blow the 1.5k and get a good example.

I would recomend waiting and only looking in your local area. this stops wasting your budget on travelling as there are loads of crap ones out there
