Under steer..... is it me or a common problem?????

This is my first MK1. I have owned a MK2 and MK3.

I have noticed that the car under-steers alot compared to the MK2 and MK3.

I have to put alot of effort on the steering wheel, when cornering the car, to stop the wheels straightening up. (Does this mean under steer or over steer???) The MK2 and MK3 took corners easily.

Is it me? Do the wheels need aligning? Or is it a common problem on MK1's.

The MK1 is completely standard - 13 inch alloys, not lowered. But I have fitted the GSF poly-bush kit on the front wishbones.

Mk1 shouldn't understeer unless you're on the raggedy edge, If you've changed the bushes then there's a chance ther alignment might be out out slightly, but it shouldn't make a huge difference. You can always go and get the wheel alignment camber & toe checked. Any possibility of crash damage/bent mounting points?

I will check out the alignment. But there are no signs of write-off damage.

Does the understeer occur at low or high speeds? Is it more pronounced on left-handers? If it's high speed left handers then it's normal as there is a strong driver's side weight bias on the mk1 (especially if you're a bit of a chubber )

I guess its at high speeds and greater on left-turns.

Need the alignment checked anyway. Will let you know how it goes.
