Ill Timing

Hello All

My Dads 8valve mark 3 GTI hits the rev limiter at 5000rpm, it was suggested that it is the timing that is out, is it just a case of taking it to the dealership and getting them to sort the timing out, it is really sh!t on fuel aswell will this be sorted out if the timing is done?
