Soft Brake Pedal
« on: 11 January 2006, 10:46 »
My 8v has a soft brake pedal. Brakes go on well though when you press far enough.

Any recommendations for getting rid of the initial travel in the pedal or is this an 8v trend?
Mk2 8v and 16v.

1st thing you need to do is bleed the system and top up the fluid.

Jet, maybe your servo is buggered?
The inner diaphram split on mine so was taking in air when i braked. Gradually got worse till it sounded like lorry air brakes.
Eventually i lost all brakes, car would stall as soon as i touched pedal.

Si, did you get a kind of hissing sound, like air escaping from somewhere, pressing the brake pedal when your servo was going. That's what I'm getting at the moment.

a constant hissing sound when the pedal is pressed should be looked at.

otherwise it should be fine!

Yeah, thats what i had. A brake will hiss to a certain extent when pressed but when servo packs up it makes a loud hiss and revs drop. Eventually get worse and car wont run when brake is pushed.
