I reckon that sounds like a good price considering the low mileage. A common fault on these cars is the MAF (Mass airflow sensor) which can make them unresponsive/ jerky to drive.

The 1.8t engine also has different codes to tell you exactly what type it is, there are a few codes (mine is AUM) 150bhp 20v Variable Valve Timing.  but there is AUZ which I think relates to the Anniversary models which had 180 BHP. Do a search on this site to see if you can confirm these codes, as I'm going off the top of my head at the moment.

I know that my car has a sticker near the spare wheel (under the carpet) and this shows the AUM code...it will probably be under the bonnet/on the V5 registration doc. somewhere aswell.

If the 35k is genuine, should'nt be anything major wrong with it at all.

£6750 does seem maybe a little rich, unless it is utterly mint and has leather etc.

I don't see the concern re' EU imports. So long as it is at least UK spec what is the problem? We are too old for warranties to be an issue.
Personally when someone else was looking recently, the fact that they were looking at a 1 owner personally imported car was a good thing. The kind of person who is prepared to do all the research, wait 6 months + for the car is probably going to make a good effort of keeping it in tip top shape.

Not that I am bias! mine is a personal import. although there is no way of knowing, exact UK spec and doesn't mention it in the V5 doc anywhere. I only know because I knew owner number one.

true i know the only way of telling is to ring vw customer services but wouldnt the value of the car be less because the cars been bought cheaper in the first place plus i know people that work at honda and subaru main dealers and they wont touch imports for any serviceing or repairs not 100% sure of the reason why though

There is a big difference betweem the Jap imports and EU imports.
For instance, my Golf is EXACT UK spec. It was ordered as a UK car, but via a Scandinavian dealer. Is is a UK car. Only difference being that it had 2 years pan Euro warranty, not the third year that is backed by VW Uk dealers. Was serviced by UK dealers as per normal and warranty could have been extended as per a car sold via UK dealer. My car is also registered with VW UK as a car in the UK.

Jap imports are a different story as they are often non UK models, have diff parts, diff emission regulations, bodywork, need SVA etc - Nightmare to insure because they have unique parts that are not widely available in the UK. Also dealers won't have the training or diagnostic equipment. Having said that, if you are in to Jap rockets and modding, the imports can make sense as they are often loaded with tuning kit - and cheaper...

I bought a 206 GTi in Holland in 1999, and sold it to a dealer 1 year later - was offered same price. A significant % of cars came from EU then asd they were 20-40% cheaper. All the large car supermarkets sell imports, usually pre registered. Dealers did try to scaremonger (import = bad) for obvious reasons, as this was taking a huge chunk out of their sales. less of an issue now sterling has weakened against the Euro. But in the main, the warranty was the only issue.

There are some minor anomolies with the Golf. The 2.0 gti imported from the EU are badged 2.0 on the boot as they are called 'highline' models in Europe, not GTI. In some markets an alarm wasn't standard and most Dutch cars seem to come with cruise control.

So long as it is at least UK spec and out of warranty anyway, I don't see an issue. Have a go at bashing the price down because of it though! but not when I sell mine in a few weeks time/./  (01 met black, climate, red recaro, 6 disc, FSH, 75K, 3dr, BBS split rim £5,450)

I have owned 8v mk2 and mk3.  The mark 4 1.8t  is excellent and very refined.(the mk2 was a real high).  I have owned it from new and can't fault the standard car.  Stiffer suspension to cope with the power is the only change I would make, however the state of the roads where I live makes the softer option better all round.

I have got my std UK car 02/02 mk4 1.8t pearl black, 3dr, a/c, 6cd 49k, vgc, up for sale at ~£8k.  Offered approx £7k as trade in against new mk5.  Looking on the official VW used car lists, this car goes for about £9k.

£6750 for w reg is expensive.  If it's very good then £6k.
