red temp light

please can you help have just bought my first golf gti cabrio,1991 on  j plate,car has a full serv history,2 questions car has now done 86k had cam belt changed at 61k,when sould it next be done ,also the temp light keeps flashing on/off,car not running hot have checked leaks/levels etc,please any help ,thanks lloyd

If the temp is ok, and the light is flashing, then it could be the actual gauge itself. I think the light works when a contact is made in the gauge, if the contact arm is bent it may hit at a lower temperature. However, my cab temp light flickers on start up occasionally but once it is running, there are no problems at all

got any pics of it?

My temp light sometimes comes on as well when it starts up.but very rarely.Also when i had just bought it,had it out on a hot day,pulled over for it minute n it just started flashing.thought it was abit dodgy but it went off just as quickly as it went on as soon as i started driving,never happened since.Think its just temperamental,thats y its a girl!!

thanks for the quick response think im going to like it here!,the light starts flashin as soon as you turn engine on the computer oil temp reads 90-96 degs i assume thats ok? we drove it @45 miles home and it drove lovely,hope its ok,any info on cam belt would be appreciated,willput up pics when given it a wash and tried to clean roof,cheers :)
