stop pop up ads
« on: 10 November 2003, 18:45 »
Thought I would share this little gem with all XP users
If you are using this sytem then you would of seen the little grey boxes that keep poping up and asking you to buy their software to stop the little grey boxes from popping up
- very ironic - (and its free, meaning more money for mods)

step 1 - click run in the start menu

step 2 - type "services.msc" and click "ok"

step 3 - scroll down and select "Messenger"

step 4 - change the "Startup type" option to "disable"

step 5 - Click "ok"

step 6 - spend the ?30 I just saved you on some
 optimax/mods/beer/vodka/cigarettes/loose women (delete as appropriate)

This is caused by a setting in the system to allow the network administrator to contact all the "intranet" users, unfortunatly the internet spammers have discovered this little loop hole. This will not stop the Knock-Knocks from off site IMs though.

I use pop-up stopper, the freebie one from www.panicware.com and that works fine.
