I nearly had a wheel fall off on the motorway. Got a real bad vibration at anything above 40. When I pulled off the motorway and checked, they were only on hand tight! That could have been scary had they decided they'd been on long enough! It was my sisters old Cavalier (Affectionately named the Crapalier). It went to the scrapyard in the sky not long after when the MOT man poked about 5 holes in the sill with a screw driver

similar thing happened to me, i had just lowered my car and was with the two lads that lowered it for me as we were going for a blast round so B roads to see how it handled, and i heard a knocking noise every time i went round a corner, got out and my mate Andy who's side it was (my two mates had a side each when they lowered it) noticed that they were only finger tight!!!

yeah i felt a vibration, and thought, hmmmm, that doesn't feel good, and then it fell off, it was very sudden, funny thing is it nearly happened on my rover but i stopped in time, same wheel too, front left  :undecided:

I have been driving the car, thing have wrecked a few bushes too, so will be replacing them next week, i am so paranoid, keep thinking its about to fall off again!!!! keep checking the nuts they are still tight.

How hard is it to replace ALL the front bushes, including non power assisted steering rack bushes. I thought i may as well replace them all, probably with polybushes, have next week off to do it

Theres a write up on here somewhere on how to do it. I put some pics n stuff in my project secion if you wanna have a look. i might have done a how to in the mk2 infor and maintenence section too (cant remember and cant be arsed to look)

Anyway they are easy enough. The hardest part is squeezing the new bushes in. USE LUBE!

are golf wheel bolts prone to shearing as well from overtightening?

its a right a-hole when that happens!
