Mk2 Driver
« on: 06 January 2006, 23:15 »
Hi Folks
Just bought a 1.6 mk2 driver and was wondering is it possible to mate the 1.6 head to a 1.8 block or can anyone reccommend a 1.8 or 2.0 conversion as i would like to keep it carb fed.

if u want something nippy then u can mate your 1.6 head to an audi 2ltr block cant remember the engine code, and even better put a 1.8gti head on it, with your exisiting carb and manifold as it bolts straight on

Can't think of a funy or whitty comment

1.8gti head
1.8gti camshaft or performance cam like piper etc
weber carb 32 / 34 or twin 40's
4-2-1 manifold
full exhaust system
performance panel filter

VW Golf Driver on Steriods! i got a driver as well but cnt afford these exotic mods, also thinking of slamming a vr6 in there.

To answer your original question, yes the 1.6 head will mate to the 1.8 GTI/Driver/GL block.  In fact, the 1.6 block is actually a 1.8 block with modified internals to reduce the CC to 1.6 :)

You can also use the 2.0 block from a MK3 GTI or Passat (engine code 2e) but you need to block the breather at the front and swap the gear on the 2e dizzy onto your old one, then fit it to the 2.0 block using an adaptor plate.  Both plates can be bought from TSR I believe :)
