MK4 FOG LIGHTS
« on: 06 January 2006, 22:14 »
Does any one have a set of these on their golf?

If so i dont really want to use the loom that comes with it, switch is a bit naff. Is there anyway of using the standard fog light switch?

I've just got mine off E-bay. They were £39.99 plus £10.00 postage (from Mr Rabbity).

I E-mailed Kniterider who used to be on this forum quite a bit as I knew he had put some on his Mk4. Basically he said that he took the feed from the original Fog lamp wiring, left the wiring loom (which is also directly connected to the battery) in the space in front of the battery with the switch in the on position. So each time he puts his original fogs on the bottom ones come on too.

I've not decided yet if i'm going to do the same, mainly because I quite like being able to put on my original fogs without getting flashed by oncoming traffic or pulled over by the police. I think I might get a qualified auto electrician to set them up separately.

Beware that these can block air intake to your intercooler if you got a 1.8T

I dont think that they would have much impact on the airflow compared to the original grille tbh. It's still got all the original slats in it.

The grill with the fog lights in looks like it is an original VW grill.... just has the fog light cut and moulded in... i dont think it shoudl make toooo much difference?!

If they are decent ones they will have the slats cut out ,but they will still restrict the airflow a little as the slat is cut down.  Plus with the intercooler on  a MK4 being in the sh!test place ever, it needs all the air it can get.

Its all down to personal pref at the end of the dayh tho, if you got em fitted and like em then everyones a winner
