An odd request regarding your reg doc/

May sound like a daft question, but what does your Mk4 gti say in the following places on the V5 reg doc?

Variant:
Version: ??

Body Type: Hatcback or saloon: ?

Number of seats including driver: ?

I bought my golf off a friend who imported it himself, he didn't do a great job of filling in all the blanks on the form!

Thanks - yours seems a bit odd too. When I spoke with VW and DVLA they basically said that the V% can say virtually anything, and in the case of imports very little (Golf 1.8 in my case)

I was expecting the variant and version to say GTI Turbo or something like that. I am changing my address and was planning to get this stuff updated at the same time.

So VW were correct when they say most are nearly blank or say some stuff which doesn't see to make sense.

Mine has lots of blanks too, the important stuff is there (like VIN and engine number) but under model/type it just says Golf. Does yours ellaborate and say Golf Gti?

VW Uk said I was lucky mine even said Golf, they said they had lots of prospective secondhand purchasers phoning them to confirm the exact model

Mine does specify the Model/Type as GOLF GTI TURBO.

On a slightly different subject though, I read somewhere that you should avoid golf's that were assembled in the South Africa plant.  How do you find out where the car was built??

look at your chassis number, if it begins WVW yhen it was made in Germany
