WTF
« on: 10 November 2003, 13:47 »
The Police were pulling loads of cars this morning on my way to work for safety checks.  I got flagged in and they checked my documents and then a bunch of blokes checked my tyres, lights, exhaust emissions, etc.  They also checked under the car and apparently my o/s CV gaiter is split.  OK I thought, I'll put it in to get it fixed.  They then handed me this printout stating what the problem was and told me I have to get it fixed and THEN PUT IT THROUGH AN MOT!!  >:(  I explained to them that I've got about 8 months MOT remaining, but I still have to get a new MOT!!!  ??? WTF is going on there??  Has anyone else had to do this????  Oh and I've got 10 days to do it or else I get charged or whatever!!  WTF

I had a similar problem with the police. A few years ago I was driving along and my back box fell off (thoughs dam universal ones) well I decided to drive on home anyway. About two corners later a police car turned onto the road I was driving on; 30 seconds after hearing me roaring along they pulled me over. They said I had 14 days to get it fixed and have the work MOT'ed. From what I remember it was only the work that was done so you should only have to have your CV gaiter tested not the hole car but don't quote me on that.

I hope that helps.

Thats what I wouldve thought, but I've definately got to put it through a full MOT (again!).  It says "blah blah blah... Make an appointment at an appropriate MOT testing station for an MOT test.... the vehicle must meet annual test standard in all respects and a pass certificate obtained".  It seems a bit daft to have to put it through another MOT 4 months after its passed one just because a bit of rubber has split...   >:(

sKrEwBaLL according to my roommate here at work you dont have to go for a full MOT, you just have to have whatever defect you were given the producer for stamped as sorted by an approved MOT inspector.
Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

no such problems on the Isle of Man, u get your car tested after its 3 yrs old (or once you bring one onto the island)

once its passed the test, thats it for the life of the car, only way you can get done is if the police decide your car is unfit for the road

its not exactly got the interests of saftey in mind, but it saves the bloody hassle of an MOT every year!!

hi there,

i had the same kind of problem with the police when i was doing up a vaux cav sri! the night after rolling it out of the garage with a kent cam etc and a set of twin 40 delertos! i was on my way home from its test run when i thought i would acclerate up the rd to mine!! now with the nice sound from the carbs a police officer who was just getting into his car herd me and stoped me in the middle of the rd!

he asked me if i knew why he stoped me! i replyed with emmm.... nope!

he advised me that there was a very load noise coming from my car (no sh!t) and he believed that i was running the car with an unroad worthy exhaust! i tryed to explaine that the noise was coming from the carbs!! but nope i was told also that i would need to re mot my car!

i took the car to a mate of my who advised me all i needed to do was get the exhaust checked out etc!! when to the mot station got them to check the exhaust the stamped the paper and said it was aok and i took that to the police station and basicaly told them to ram it!
Vr In progress

I took the paperwork along to the MOT test station and they confirmed that I DO need to get a full MOT but the guy started laughing and saying that he couldnt believe they issued one just for a split CV gaiter.  Surely the Police can put their time to better use than shafting innocent motorists.
