Dealers are getting technical bulletins now.
My car was in Spirit VW today. They confirm a steering rack fix is now available. Apparently there is a HUGE back order though.
I guess I'll have to wait another month or so.

We've already fitted a cople of replacement "fixed racks". So far so good. I've spoken to both customers concerned and all is well.! Sadly, many more customers than even realise it are concerned!.

Steering Rack was replaced today.
Problem now gone,no creaking!
The only bad point-I had a Beetle Cabrio whilst it was in!

I was supposed to getting a new rack at the end of last week but they phoned to say the racks are on back order and might be now the end of March. Hopefully it will happen then!

I have just bought my 2nd hand golf, 7mths old, 5K miles and it made the noise you described on the test-drive, the chap who I bought it from also said it was a common problem.
Does anyone know when the fix from VW is due?
Thanks

The new racks are readily available now, I had mine fitted about 2 weeks ago and all is fine now.

I had similar problems with both my Civic Type R and Civic Sport a couple of years back, i can't help but think we'd be much better off if they ditched these cheap crappo modern steering systems...
